DTA Group consists of the holding company, DTA Capital Partners Sdn. Bhd. (DTA), and the wholly owned subsidiary, DTA Ventures Management Sdn. Bhd. (DTAV).
Our Team
The people behind DTAV are (L-R): Tan Kong Cheng, Nikhil Kothari, Wan Fara Ayu, Dali Sardar and Naim Yunus.
OUR ACTIVITIES
DTA is primarily involved in originating VC transactions. The areas of specialties include advising, structuring and procuring equity or such other equity-linked finance schemes for companies.
With the mavcap allocation, DTAV actively seeks investments in the areas of software & applications, e-commerce as well as e-content. Although the fund is primarily targeted at Malaysian or Malaysian-owned companies, 30% of the fund can be allocated to foreign or foreign-owned businesses.
Investment size is RM2.25 million per company BUT co-investment program (s) can be explored with mavcap or other investors for any amount higher. For information, mavcap is managing RM400 million (out of the RM500 million allocation) while 4 independent fund management companies manage the balance RM100 million. As such, there is little constraint of investment size in mavcap given their sizable fund base.
Our Strategy
The mission of the Fund Company is to identify, invest and nurture Malaysian (and a limited number of foreign) businesses operating in the technology space specified above, so that they will contribute to the overall economic growth of the country.
At least 30% of the fund will be utilized to finance start-up investments while the balance will be allocated to emerging companies that are at least some initial track records in commercialization.
Our Value-Add
DTAV will assume the role of an active investor on behalf of the Fund Company. Although DTAV is NOT likely to be involved with the day-to-day running of the business, it will be keeping close touch with the broad direction of the investee company(ies). In this respect, we wish to be intimately involved.
